QUICK LIT BITE OF THE DAY!

Epithet- a word of phrase preceding or following a name which serves to describe the character.
 
Example: Book 1 of Homer's "The Iliad:"

Zeus-loved Achilles, you bid me explain
The wrath of far-smiting Apollo.
